Book Announcement: The Divine Messenger: Appearances of the Son of God in the Old Testament

When I was a teenager there was a local pastor who ministered to me in a special way. He was, and is, very serious about studying and teaching Scripture. One of his many insights from a lifetime of study was that the Angel of the LORD, so often spoken of in the Old Testament, was—in fact—the preincarnate Son of God! Once I came to understand that the pastor was absolutely correct, I began to see my Savior more clearly, not just in the New Testament, but throughout all of Scripture. This understanding led to my own greater interest in studying the Bible. I think it’s safe to say, that discovering God’s Son in the Old Testament played a big part in making me the pastor and servant of God I’ve become.

Most Christians read and study the New Testament far more than they read and study the Old Testament. And this is understandable. After all, it is in the New Testament where we so clearly read about and learn from Jesus. But if we want to know our Lord better, then we need to study all of God’s Word.

And that is why I’m excited to announce the release of my new book, The Divine Messenger: Appearances of the Son of God in the Old Testament, published by Wipf & Stock. In the book, you’ll find more than just appearances of the Angel of the LORD. You’ll also read about the other times the Son of God appeared, and the names by which He was called. Each of these incredible appearances foreshadowed the Incarnation, when God’s Son became the man we know as Jesus Christ.

The Divine Messenger uses several sources to support its claims, including works by ancient Jewish sages, early church fathers, respected commentators, and by present-day theologians. Included in the back is an extensive Scripture and ancient sources index. So, if you’ve ever read about someone in the Old Testament and wondered if that person just might be the Son of God, there’s a good chance you’ll be able to quickly find where the book addresses that passage.

I’m convinced that once you realize that our Savior appeared time and time again in the Old Testament, that you too will become excited, that you’ll want to read through all the Bible to find those remarkable places where the Son of God appeared.

Several leading Christians have lent their support to The Divine Messenger. The foreword was written by my friend, and bestselling Christian author, Joel Richardson. Editorial recommendations include those by Dr. William Varner (author and highly respected professor of biblical studies at The Master’s University), by Dr. Michael L. Brown (prolific author, and host of the radio show the Line of Fire), and by Mottel Baleston (highly sought after Bible teacher and director of Messengers Messianic Jewish Fellowship).

The Divine Messenger is available from Amazon, Barnes and Noble, Christianbook.com (upcoming), and from other fine book sellers. Please feel free to email me with any questions: ervin@protonmail.com
