Present Age, Millennium or Eternal State? Minor Prophets – Part 3

Blue Nile Falls - CushZEPHANIAH

Zephaniah 3:9-20 is a noteworthy summary of the Millennium, with a focus on blessings for both Jew and Gentile.  Verses 9-10:

“For at that time I will change the speech of the peoples to a pure speech, that all of them may call upon the name of the LORD and serve him with one accord. From beyond the rivers of Cush my worshipers, the daughter of my dispersed ones, shall bring my offering.

The depiction of nations becoming unified in their worship of the LORD and pilgrimages being made to bring Him offerings,[1] matches several other millennial narratives (e.g. Ps. 72:10).  The account takes place after the LORD pours out His indignation on the kingdoms of the earth (Zeph. 3:8), a future judgment.  The Messiah will have returned, ruling as King of Israel in her midst (v. 15).  At that time, Jesus will deal with Israel’s oppressors (v. 19), a group that will not be present in the Eternal State.

ZECHARIAH

Second only to Isaiah, Zechariah wrote more on the coming of the Messiah than any other prophet.  Many of these prophecies were on the Second Coming and the Millennium.  Zechariah 8:22-23:

Many peoples and strong nations shall come to seek the LORD of hosts in Jerusalem and to entreat the favor of the LORD.  Thus says the LORD of hosts: In those days ten men from the nations of every tongue shall take hold of the robe of a Jew, saying, ‘Let us go with you, for we have heard that God is with you.’”

Jesus must return before all sorts of people groups and citizens of mighty nations will be able to travel to Jerusalem to seek His favor.  In the Eternal State, everyone will be with God and will not need the help of others to find Him.  Furthermore, the desire to follow a Jew on His way to see the Messiah is indicative of the Millennium, when Israel is set above nations that do not know the LORD.

Zechariah 14:8-9:

On that day living waters shall flow out from Jerusalem, half of them to the eastern sea and half of them to the western sea. It shall continue in summer as in winter.  And the LORD will be king over all the earth. On that day the LORD will be one and his name one.

Here is a companion passage that provides extra detail on the movement of the river that will flow from the Millennial Temple (cf. Ezek. 47:1-12).  The water will flow on that day, referring to the Second Coming of the Messiah a few verses before (Zech. 14:4).  Also on the day of His return, Jesus will be king over the entire earth, reigning as a singular monarch.  The world to be ruled over is the current one on which He returns to, not the new one of the Eternal State (Rev. 21:1).

Zechariah 14:16-19:

Then everyone who survives of all the nations that have come against Jerusalem shall go up year after year to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, and to keep the Feast of Booths.  And if any of the families of the earth do not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the LORD of hosts, there will be no rain on them.  And if the family of Egypt does not go up and present themselves, then on them there shall be no rain; there shall be the plague with which the LORD afflicts the nations that do not go up to keep the Feast of Booths.  This shall be the punishment to Egypt and the punishment to all the nations that do not go up to keep the Feast of Booths.

Again, this is part of a narrative that takes place after the Second Coming (Zech. 14:4).  The peoples of the earth will have to travel to Jerusalem to worship King Messiah and observe the Feast of Tabernacles.  If they do not then they will be punished by the withholding of rain on their lands.  In the present age, God sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous alike (cf. Matt. 5:45).  In the Eternal State, no threats will be needed to convince people to come and worship God, for all will do so joyously (Rev. 21:3)!

MALACHI

 Malachi 3:2-4:

But who can endure the day of his coming, and who can stand when he appears? For he is like a refiner’s fire and like fullers’ soap.  He will sit as a refiner and purifier of silver, and he will purify the sons of Levi and refine them like gold and silver, and they will bring offerings in righteousness to the LORD. Then the offering of Judah and Jerusalem will be pleasing to the LORD as in the days of old and as in former years.

It is the Second Coming that warrants the portrayal of Jesus as a purifying fire and the rhetorical question, who can stand?  The passage conforms to the many others that tell of sacrifices offered in the Millennial Temple (e.g. Is. 56:6-8; Jer. 33:14-18; Ezek. 43:18-27; Zech. 14:20-21).  There is no death in the Eternal State (Rev. 21:4), including animals.

[1] The offerings are the Jewish people themselves, escorted by Gentiles to the Promised Land.

Looking for comments first??? Truly what wonderful scriptures were shared reminding how the Father invited all to come up to the mountain with Moses for into Me see our Shield and exceeding great Reward Genesis 1:26 the Fire that transforms coal into diamonds (Mt.Sinai) ….. So future Feast of Booths . ? Special application durning this thousand year period perhaps getting out of comfort zone ? All of these rehearsal must have great significance… In the ever expanding incorruptible Word of God Bring Us In His glory
Manifesting Thee Unfolding Revelation of MESSIAH ( John 5:19,30 )Through Vessels remade after His Likeness….2Cor.3;18 !
According to the Bible to become part of Israel one must cross over death thru the law of the Spirit of life in Messiah YesSooo Anyone who denies the Son the same has not the Father? ROM.2:28* not with human effort but by My Spirit 1Peter1:23 The birthright of Spiritual Israel Being Isaiah 53 John 11:25 20:21 Mary received the Word of God spoken to her and Messiah conceived by Holy Spirit? Will Christians give up their birthright** along with Great Commission?
The one who denies the Son is Antimessiah ? Salvation is only a part of The Revelation of Messiah…Think about Ecc.7:8 in reference to Eph.4:13 Romans 8:18-23 biblical adoption coming into the mind will an purpose of The Father. Hebrews leaving the principles of the doctrine of Messiah let us go on to perfection
Example see Issac Newton on Dan.9:27 this is a VERY special week in the Revelation of Messiah not Antichrist as shown in Luke 4:18+…Yeshua stops in mid scripture and could not go further to explain reason for His to be 3+1/2 year ministry the church is planted the middle ages give enough showers to barely keep alive..
the full ear matures in final 3+1/2 year Revelation of Messiah till we all come unto the measure of the stature of the fullness of The Anointed One Jn.17 ruling and reigning first in His people than coming for his people…
Notice in 1 The 4:16-18 The dead in Messiah rise first then we which are alive and remain shall… Then 1 Cor.15 when this occurs then comes END all rule and authority under His feet. Add honor of Rev.20:4-6 and see for yourself , only one Resurrection of the Just ,thus how could there be any salvation in the 3+1/2 Great Tribulation Period if rapture is pretribulation? Not to mention tribulation itself ? Or 50 other Scriptures …Sooo Isaiah’s unique 45:11 is tied to Dan.9:27 and Millennium Rest ? Hmmm

    * 1+2 Cor.4:7 the law is spiritual revealing we are carnal Saul was blameless before mankind but broke tenth commandments in his heart thus law was to bring us to Matt.5:3 our spiritual condition Jer.17:9.
** Jacob have I loved but Esau is The only person named in scripture by name whom God said He hated does this apply also to Rev.2:9?
Dan.9:27? Have Christians given up their birthright as Israel Gal. 3:16 , 6:16 Phil. 3:1-9
